Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G SoC Announced
During its Virtual Snapdragon Tech Summit, Qualcomm unveiled its much-awaited flagship 800-series chipset, which will be among next year's most premium smartphones. It is called the "Snapdragon 888" chipset, not the Snapdragon 875 or Snapdragon 870 as many in the industry have speculated.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G mobile platform is the successor to last year's Snapdragon 865. It is a "providing premium experience for users" chipset, called Qualcomm, bringing major advancements in the gaming and camera department. It also continues to focus on 5G connectivity.
The Snapdragon 888 integrates the third-gen Snapdragon X60 5G-RF modem onboard. It supports both MMW and sub-6GH 5G networks with support for multi-SIM, carrier aggregation, dynamic spectrum sharing, and more.
There is a new 6-gen AI engine, coupled with an advanced hexagon processor that provides an astonishing 26 TOPS (tera operations per second). The Elite Gaming Engine, along with the new Adreno GPU, will bring new mobile-first gaming features to upcoming flagship phones. And more importantly, Snapdragon 888 will take a significant leap forward in computational photography with the new Spectra ISP. This will "allow users to capture photos and videos at 2.7 GHz per second or 120 photos at 12MP resolution." According to an official press release, it is 35% faster than previous-gen ISPs.
Qualcomm Incorporated President Cristiano Amon said it is an organization focused on tomorrow, which continues to redefine premium experiences.
Besides, Qualcomm has listed the phone manufacturers that will debut the flagships powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset next year. According to the official press release, the likes of ASUS, Black Shark, Lenovo, LG, Meizu, Motorola, Nubia, Realme, OnePlus, OPPO, Sharp, Vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE will provide support for this flagship chipset.
