Super Blood Moon to Be Sighted on January 20-21, the Last Total Lunar Eclipse Till 2021

2019 is promising to be a fantastic year for the stargazers. In fact, the first month of the year is going to bring a rare moon event - Super Blood Moon to stimulate amateur astronomers. This particular super blood moon is actually going to be a trifecta of lunar incidences - total lunar eclipse, super blood moon and a "wolf moon" - and it is also being called the Super Blood Wolf Moon. In 2019 Super Moon, which is set for 20 and 21 January (on the time zone basis), will be visible to people in America and Western Europe and parts of Africa. This makes the lunar eclipse even more special, it is the last lunar eclipse until May 26, 2021. The last lunar eclipse occurred on July 27 last year.

As told by National Geographic, the total lunar eclipse will start from 10:11 a.m. on January 21 (11:45 pm ET, 20 January) and will last for 62 minutes. Most people in Asia, including India, will remember the full eclipse, while in East Africa and Eastern Europe people will see a partial lunar eclipse, which will start before 10:11 in the morning, and will continue after 62 minutes mark . The full moon event with partial eclipse and total eclipse will last up to 3.5 hours.

If you missed this in your science class then the total lunar eclipse occurs when the sun, the earth and the moon are completely queued and the earth stops all the sun's light from reaching the moon. Apart from this, lunar eclipse occurs only after the full moon.

What are Super Blood Moon and Wolf Moon?
Super Blood Moon is an event in which the Moon appears particularly large and bright, with a red glow. The large presence of the moon can be attributed to the distance between the earth and the moon. During a super moon, the Moon is closer to the Earth than normal, making it look bigger and bright. But why red, you ask? During the total lunar eclipse, when the sun's light passes through the Earth's atmosphere, the small wavelength of the sunlight is scattered outside the shadow of the earth and long red wavelengths are refracted towards the moon, making them look red. The brightness of red glow depends on the amount of dust and clouds in the Earth's atmosphere. More dust can show the moon dark red.

On the other hand, the Wolf Moon is the nickname of a full moon which appears in the middle of winter. It was given after the wolves by American American tribes that they were hunted for food in the winter. As we said, this time the incident on January 21 is being called Super Blood Wolf Moon.
